So long, Hawaii!

Posted by Greg on Aug 21, 2009 in Op-Ed

Saw an article on Yahoo’s front page about its sovereignty movement and felt compelled to wax rhapsodic. Now I know we all love Hawaii and our beloved president was born there, but I for the life of me don’t really see it’s relevance as a state. I realize this is probably jaded, shallow and uninformed, but its geography alone is alienating and other than its tourism, I don’t think it contributes much to the American economy. I realize that if we abandon it, the question is posed, who takes it? But I can’t see why we can’t make it the same designation as Puerto Rico, or why we didn’t do that from the start? Does anyone follow me?
