Band of the Day: Salt Cathedral

Salt Cathedral
We have been fans of New York City duo Salt Cathedral since their earliest days when they went by the name Il Albanico and were a quintet. When they changed their name in 2013, we loved the new moniker and absolutely swooned over the self-titled album. The following year they released Oom Velt and the swooning started up again. Their 2016 EPs No Ordinary Man and Homage slipped under our radar, but we absolutely loved their 2016 single “Unraveling” featuring Matisyahu.

The band has been trimmed down to a duo over the last few years but what they lack in size they certainly make up for with charisma. Quite simply, this band is on the precipice of something truly magnificent. Juliana Ronderos and Nicolas Losada have a knack for crafting indelible tunes and their most recent string of songs just might be their best. Their latest single “Rude Boy” is a synth-splashed slice of urban dance pop that will absolutely find its way to chart success and massive tours. Vocalist Juliana Ronderos has a voice that is perfect for radio and it seems almost a sure thing that this band will flood playlists by year’s end.

The band also released “No Love” to their Bandcamp page as well. That song is swirling, celestial and definitely rhythmic. Ostensibly a song calling for peace it is kaleidoscopic in its scope and ridiculously catchy. Without a doubt, these are two of band’s best songs to date. Last week the band released a video for Baeble for “Always There When I Need You” and hot damn it just might be the best song we’ve heard this summer.
