Ariana Grande Continues to Soar

We’ll just go out and say it now. We’re not exactly fans of Ariana Grande over here at SITH headquarters. But we acknowledge good songs when we hear one. “thank u, next” is probably one of our favorite songs of 2019 and if her album is anything like that song, we’ll probably get our hands on it before the weekend.

All that being written, Grande just made history today. In addition to thank u, next seizing the #1 spot on the Billboard 200, the album has also amassed 360k equivalent album units in under seven days. As a result, it now holds the record for Largest Streaming Week for a Pop Album & Female Artist. She also holds rank as the only female artist to grace the list of Top Ten Biggest Streaming Weeks. thank u, next smashed the global Spotify record for biggest opening day by a female artist as songs from the album occupied the Top 12 spots on the Spotify U.S. Chart. Not to mention, it achieved the biggest first 24 hours for a pop album in Apple music history and set the record for most streams by a female artist in Apple Music history.

Album tracks from thank u next also dominated the Top 10 on Apple Music Global chart and she nabbed number ones with #1 Song, #1 Album, and #1 Music Video simultaneously on both Apple Music and iTunes platforms. What’s even crazier is that Grande might be more popular in the U.K. where she holds the title of the the first female artist in history to simultaneously hold the #1 album and Top 2 singles on the Official UK Charts.

She also became the first artist in history to replace herself at #1 on the UK Official Singles Chart, the first female artist to have three singles concurrently in the Top 10 of the UK Official Singles Chart as a lead artist since 1955, and joins Elvis Presley, John Lennon, and Justin Bieber as the only artists ever to score three #1 singles in under 100 days in the U.K. thank u, next also surpasses Sweetener with the most album streams ever in the U.K. by a female artist in a week.

This follows her recent GRAMMY┬« Award win for Best Pop Vocal Album for last year’s critically acclaimed Sweetener. Meanwhile, her current single “7 rings” is now in its fourth consecutive week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

If 2019 has shown us anything, it might just be the year of Ariana.
