Song of the Week: Noah Dane – “There Goes”

Posted by Greg on May 10, 2019 in Music |

Sometimes a song takes you by storm. Alters your entire day, your frame of thinking and the way you approach listening to music. So it is with Noah Dane’s debut single “There Goes.” Inherently melancholic, the song is layered, richly produced and deeply affecting. Considering this is Dane’s debut single, we are absolutely floored by the quality of this single. Mastered by Dave McNair (Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, et al) the song opens as something supple, minimalistic and sparse. Quickly it evolves into a composition that is amorphous, exploratory and well, just downright majestic.

On his YouTube page, Noah writes the following:

A close friend and someone that I look up to tremendously was diagnosed with cancer and underwent surgery and chemotherapy. There Goes is about witnessing that and visiting them, otherwise alone, in the hospital on NYE. It’s about visiting them in their home and seeing them wretch and writhe. It’s also about the emotional impact of sickness on those afflicted and those who love them, and the impossible weight of healthcare costs in the US.

Fifteen minutes ago we had no idea who the heck Noah Dane was. Now we’re eagerly awaiting a full-length. Holy heck, this dude just might be the next Bon Iver.
