A change is a coming. Michael Bunnell, executive director of the Coalition of Independent Music Stores (CIMS) announced his retirement today. Andrea Paschal, who has worked as general manager of CIMS for quite some time, will assume the role of executive director. Bunnell will continue as executive director until the end of 2019.

CIMS was founded in 1995 by Bunnell, and he also helped launch ThinkIndie Distribution. He has also served on the board of Record Store Day and helped manage that organization in tandem with the Department of Record Stores and the Alliance of Independent Music Stores. Bunnell’s future plans include spending more time with his wife Jill Selvy and spending more time at The Record Exchange, a store he founded and has owned in Boise, ID since 1977.

The CIMS has 44 stores in the coalition. ThinkIndie was founded in 1999 and to date has distributed more than 2300 titles globally.
