Drake White Discusses Health Issues with PEOPLE Magazine

One of our favorite country artists of the last half-decade is Alabama native Drake White. Unfortunately these days, White is making headlines for nothing related to his nearly impeccable creative output.

Earlier this week, White spoke with PEOPLE magazine writer Trica Despres and discussed his journey battling arteriovenous malformation (AVM) that was discovered earlier this year. His battle with APV will be documented in the upcoming Sept. 2 edition of PEOPLE magazine.

According to the article, AVM is an unexpected tangle of vessels connecting arteries and veins, which halts normal blood flow and oxygen circulation. When AVM disrupts both the arteries and veins, the surrounding tissue often does not receive enough oxygen and the arteries and veins can both weaken and rupture.
White’s struggles with AVM have been well documented over the course of the year. On August 16, while playing a set in Roanoke, VA, he nearly fell and was taken to a local hospital. Though White has not confirmed the future of his current tour, it is expected that he will reschedule some of his future shows to focus on battling AVM. The PEOPLE magazine article says that Drake and his wife Alex have endured this hardship because of their strong Christian faith.

If Drake White is an unknown name to you, take the time to explore his discography. His most recent albums include 2018’s Drake White and the Big Fire Live and the EP Pieces. The record that made us fans is 2016’s Spark. One of our favorite radio stations, SiriusXM’s The Highway also logged numerous plays of his infectious single “Makin’ Me Look Good Again.” That song was the recipient of the International Song of the Year at the British CMA Awards.

To date, White has shared stages with the likes of Willie Nelson, Dierks Bentley, Zac Brown Band, Eric Church, Kip Moore and countless others. And if this is your first time listening to his music, please do yourself a favor and dive deep into this man’s work. He is a true talent. Additionally, if you’re so inclined, send a few prayers his way. Him and his wife could certainly use them. Here’s to a speedy recovery Drake, all of us here at SITH are hoping you swing through Orlando again soon.
