Song of the Day: Devon Gilfillian – “Even Though It Hurts”

Posted by Greg on Sep 26, 2019 in Music |

We can’t get enough of “Even Though It Hurts” the latest single from Nashville singer-songwriter Devon Gilfillian. A mesmerizing mix of Maxwell, Leon Bridges and Jamiroquai, Gilfillian takes old-school soul and marries it with modern indie-rock stylings. The end result is one of the most confident and sure-footed singles we’ve heard this year. Should you be so lucky to have him play your town, do yourself a favor and be sure to check out his live set. You will not regret it. Gilfillian just wrapped up a tour supporting SoCal indie darlings Local Natives and is set to join Michael Franti + Spearhead in October.

“Even Though It Hurts” dropped on Aug. 20, 2019 and appears on his forthcoming full-length record and follows in the wake of Gilfillian’s signing to Capitol Records. The full-length will serve as the follow-up to his 2016 debut EP, which featured soul-pop scorcher “Troublemaker.” In just four years, Gilfillian has shared stages with the likes of Keith Urban, Gladys Knight, Kaleo, Mavis Staples and Brothers Osborne, to name a few. With those kind of heavyweights in his back pocket, one can see 2020 becoming the Year of Devon. You heard it here first.
