Tuesday Tunes: Michael Bluestein – “Why Corona?”

Posted by Greg on Apr 21, 2020 in Music |

Posting has not been our strength despite the COVID epidemic. That however is more due to chemotherapy and balancing the weekly ups-and-downs of colon cancer. But something came across our desk and we felt compared to share. Sure there have been TONS of COVID-related songs released to date (and most of them are probably worth posting) but this one seemed to hit a tone that just felt honest, sincere and heartfelt.

Michael Bluestein, keyboardist for Foreigner, wrote the pandemic-inspired ditty “Why Corona?” and well, it has us quite moved. Featuring gorgeous cello from Dave Eggar, lush backing vocals from Tina Terry and a windswept chorus, it might just be the tonic needed to survive the quarantine.

Bluestein, a Berklee College of Music grad, is no stranger to large stages. In addition to his new duties with Foreigner, he also has played alongside the likes of Boz Scaggs, Stevie Nicks, Enrique Iglesias and in the house band on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Those impeccable credentials might explain how something so effortless and affecting as “Why Corona?” came to be.

Regardless of the reason it makes us hopeful that in due time we will survive this. And that’s what we want in a Tuesday tune.
