RIP CJ Harris
On a solemn day, there’s even more solemn news in the music world. While not nearly as titanic or world-renowned as Jeff Beck, singer/songwriter CJ Harris was an American Idol contestant who finished sixth during the 2014 season. According to reports, he died of a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.
While it is admittedly pretty lame to be 41 and still watch American Idol, I remain a loyal viewer every year. Call it a guilty pleasure, but sure enough, there’s something compelling about hearing artists sing songs and bare their souls. For all the varied reasons the show is a total joke, hearing people sing still remains an enjoyable way to pass the time. One of the reason is to discover artists like Harris, whose soulful vocals and timeless charm were instantly winning. Keith Urban was a fan instantly and Urban’s musical palate has always been a barometer that’s been simialr to mine.
