Shakey Graves is Shaking Things Up (No Surprise There)

Austin’s favorite troubadour, Alejandro Rose Garcia, AKA Shakey Graves has always been a fan of the unconventional. So it comes as no surprise that his latest musical project, Can’t Wake Up (due May 4) is quite frankly one of the most innovative and left-of-center things we’ve heard in quite some time.

Partnering with the art collective Meow Wolf, Alejandro has hidden each of the 13 songs from the new album on cassette tapes in lockboxes scattered around the Austin metropolitan area. To retrieve said cassette tapes, one has to engage in a series of quests, including but not limited to: bowling a score of 200 or higher, playing laser tag, visiting some of the many moon towers in the Austin area and playing Pinballz arcade. In addition, winners of the quest are invited to a listening party at Austin venue Geraldine’s on March 15 with a +4 on the list.

While this is arguably one of the coolest album releases we’ve ever seen, as residents of Florida, well, we’re pretty darn bummed. In the meantime, we’re anxiously hoping that Can’t Wake Up is as engaging and original as the release.
