Song of the Day: Tauk – “Convoy”

Tauk 2

Arguably one of the best live bands on the planet is the Long Island quartet TAUK (as in Montauk) and their latest album, Shapeshifter II: Outbreak, hits retailers today. The lead single off the album is “Convoy,” a sun-kissed and joyous foray into loose jazz and free-form funk. The organs are airy, the guitars are noodling and the synths are smooth and cylindrical. Buttressed by a bass that is bright, bubbly and decidedly vernal, this just might be the best summer song you’ve never heard.

Like with most things from TAUK it meanders and wanders but never once does the band let the song get too far along, dialing it back before the 6-minute-mark. That kind of attention to detail is why they stand high above their contemporaries. Heck, they just might be the best band you’ve never heard of. Hit the highway, roll the windows down and convoy to the beach with this titanic cut. Better yet, head to Amazon and buy their albums! We recommend Homunculus. We’re certain it won’t let you down.
